“Thala ” denotes “Head” and “Pothichil ” denotes “Covering”. Thus, Thala Pothichil is an ayurvedic therapy in which the head is massaged and then wrapped with a thick covering, made up of herbal paste, on which a groove is left at the centre which is eventually filled with medicated oil. The procedure then follows further wrapping the herbal cover using leaves or cloth, leaving the groove open. This cooling treatment is helpful in relieving stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, hair loss, and also aids in treating skin diseases of the scalp, including dermatitis and dandruff and neurological and psychological problems.
