RAJA YOGA: THE PATH OF DISCIPLINE

The king of all Yoga (raja means king); this is the eight folded pathways for awakening as recommended by Patanjali as discussed so far. Since its practices are broken down into 8 limbs, Raja yoga is also known to be Ashtanga yoga. In short, Raja yoga is generally based on the control of the mind and its regular analysis. It brings with it meditation and helps the mind to gain back its focus. With each step in Raja yoga, you would get closer to your true self.

Speaking of that, the eight limbs or practices in Raja yoga include Yama(restraints), Niyamas(habits), Asana(a firm pose), Pranayama(breath control), Pratyahara(withdrawal from senses), Dharana(focus or concentration), Dhyana(meditation) and Samadhi(super consciousness). Additionally, practicing the eight steps of Raja yoga in order would help enlighten your mind as well as bring peace and serenity along with it.

BHAKTI YOGA: THE PATH OF DEVOTION

Bhakthi yoga promotes a form of unconditional love for everything that surrounds you. Besides, the union of mind, body and spirit is more likely to be accomplished with ease by practicing Bhakti yoga. Here inner peace is found by devotion to God. Devotion can be practiced via Sravana (listening), Kirtana (praising), Smarana (remembering), Pada-sevana (rendering service), Archana (rituals), Vandana (worshipping), Dasya (serving), Sakhya (friendship), and Atma-nivedana (complete surrender of the self).

While chanting a prayer as part of Bhakthi yoga, you could improve your psychological and positive well-being. What’s more, when you perform mantra meditation, it would help reduce stress, enhance focus and relieve you from pain as well as help attain a feeling of sheer bliss while connecting with divinity.

KARMA YOGA: THE PATH OF RIGHT ACTIONS

This is a path to self-actualisation by doing right things without expecting anything in return or being worried about the results. Karma yoga is the process of transforming from Kamya karma (action with desires) to Yogi karma (action without desire or attachment). You have the right to work, but for the work’s sake only. You have no right to the fruits of work. Desire for the fruits of work must never be your motive in working. Never give way to laziness, either.

“Perform every action with you heart fixed on the Supreme Lord. Renounce attachment to the fruits. Be even-tempered in success and failure: for it is this evenness of temper which is meant by yoga. Work done with anxiety about results is far inferior to work done without such anxiety, in the calm of self-surrender. Seek refuge in the knowledge of Brahma.” Bhagavad Gita

JNANA YOGA: THE PATH OF KNOWLEDGE

JNANA YOGA: THE PATH OF KNOWLEDGE

This the path of knowledge. Here by seeking knowledge, and building awareness and consciousness, the enlightenment is achieved. When one succeeds in the path of knowledge, they don’t feel any worldly emotions, instead just content. There are three stages for knowledge

Sravana or getting exposed to the knowledge

Manana or processing the knowledge

Nididdhyasana or understanding the knowledge to the core and living it.
