Bachelors in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Rafeena is one of the most skilled and experienced Ayurvedic practitioners in Australia who is an expert in Kerala Panchakarma (Ayurvedic detox). Hailing from Kerala – the Southern state of India which is known as the cradle of Ayurveda and a place that has always held Ayurveda close, Rafeena has been passionate about Ayurveda even from her childhood.
Rafeena’s likeness towards Ayurveda budded during her 11th grade when her mother’s wrist got fractured. Though surgery was recommended, her mother wanted to try Ayurveda and her wrist was able to get healed through Ayurvedic treatment. Rafeena was surprised just like everyone else because she never knew Ayurveda was that effective. This likeness towards Ayurveda was spiced up when she heard a similar story from one of her mother’s friends about how she got a similar wrist injury that was not completely healed even after surgery. She set her mind on learning deeper about Ayurveda and enrolled in Bachelor’s in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S) through the Kerala Medical Entrance examination (a competitive examination like UCAT in Australia).
Since Rafeena studied and practised in Kerala, she has a deep knowledge of Ayurveda. Further, she is well-versed in perfectly employing Ayurveda in today’s era with empathy and utmost care. She boasts experience in the utilization of Ayurvedic herbal remedies and carrying out various massages and therapies to uproot diseases. Being a mother of one boy and a full-time homemaker, she believes that Ayurveda is extremely vital for individuals and families to achieve optimum health.
Coming to Rafeena’s qualifications and certifications, she is a graduate in Ayurvedic Medicines and Surgery (6 years course) from Government Ayurveda College, Kannur (Kannur University), Kerala, India. She has also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga from Annamalai University. In addition to these, she has certification in Gynaecology and Obstetrics from ISMER (Ideal Society for Medical Education and Research), Mumbai. Right after her studies, she was appointed at Government Ayurveda College in Kannur as an Ayurvedic lecturer. Through this job, she could polish her abilities and improve her teaching skills, thanks to the expert professors who provided guidance. Subsequently, she worked at an international institution named Greens Ayu Hospital as a Panchakarma practitioner through which she got the opportunity to deal with several clients across the globe. Later on, she underwent a competitive selection process and was chosen by the State Government of Kerala as an Ayurvedic physician for Ayurvedic primary health care centres and hospitals – the centres that witness beyond 100 patients on a daily basis. This was where she got the opportunity to get involved in practices to maintain the health of the general public. During this phase of her career, she could also elevate her experience in handling complex cases. Rafeena migrated to Australia, and began practice from an Ayurveda Clinic in Sydney from 2013.
During her journey thus far, her contributions were duly recognized by various renowned associations. Her project on “Yoga for prevention of lifestyle diseases among senior citizens” was awarded as one of the best projects by an Ayurvedic doctor in Kannur in the year 2010-11. Apart from that, she was selected as the Project Coordinator for Panniyannur Gramapanchayath (local council) in the year 2012. She was also awarded by Australasian Association of Ayurveda twice for her contributions towards the association and Ayurveda community.
